Dear Traveler 2008
Dear Traveler,
Past 'Dear Traveler' letters focused on CNT operating philosophy,
why we are uniquely able to provide outstanding travel experiences,
trip reports, and trip previews. This year I'm sharing a few thoughts
on trip selection.
As you know, your vacation is my vacation too. I plan trips to
places I want to see and experience, sometimes once is enough,
other destinations are favorites to return again and again.
My list is long and inclusive, particularly for Latin America
which holds the greatest natural history diversity on the planet.
Other destinations, the continent of Africa, are compelling with
their extreme and unique natural history.
How to decide where and when? If I go there and like it you
will have the opportunity to return with me. Ideally, I travel
first and then plan your experience from my experience. For some
destinations, Botswana and Namibia for example, reconnaissance
trips are not feasible. When I am certain of the quality of the
itinerary we all go, for the first time, together. Maiden tours
are first offered to CNT alumni, their families and friends. They
know us and know what to expect.
Destinations are frequently suggested by CNT travelers. Galapagos
moved to the top of the list this way and this year the Hawaiian
Islands. For a few destinations advance interest is required prior
to planning. The required deposits are simply too high for speculative
planning. I will not travel with a group to the Galapagos Islands
without filling our chartered boat, 14 passengers. Africa, a singularly
outstanding trip, also requires a committed group prior to reserving
camps and flights. If you are interested in either please let
me know. The Galapagos Islands is a wonderful family trip. Your
suggestions are always welcome.
In November Tom and I will explore our new destination Argentina,
including the sub-tropical Iguazu Falls, Ibera Marshlands, Patagonia
Lake District, and Península Valdés. Look for Argentina
in 2009.
For 2008 CNT is traveling to Belize, a perennial favorite, and
the Hawaiian Islands, our newest destination. In Belize we return
to Chan Chich, one of the truly outstanding eco-lodges, visit
inland Mayan sites and jungle, and spend our coastal time in charming
San Pedro for some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean. The
isolated Hawaiian Islands, like Galapagos, are formed by volcanic
activity. Had Darwin landed here he would have studied honeycreepers.
We'll explore the rainforests, volcanoes, marine life, and native
flora and fauna on three islands.
For our 2007 travels we had a great group of companions, CNT
veterans and first-time travelers, all sharing the passion for
new adventures. I hope you consider joining us in 2008.
We look forward to you traveling with us,
Linda Ingram
